Offering hybrid session
Hello! I’m Divya, a licensed counselor in Maryland with roots in India. I am passionate about mental health, wellness, and making therapy accessible to everyone. I specialize in trauma-informed care and support clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and emotional dysregulation. I also bring cultural and social awareness to my work, creating a compassionate and holistic space for healing and growth.
I specialize in treating trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). I also work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and emotional dysregulation. I help individuals heal from attachment wounds and build healthier relationship patterns. I also work with couples in navigating communication challenges, conflict, and relationship stressors. I am passionate about supporting people of color, women, Indian and other minority communities, as well a individuals navigating neurodivergence such as ADHD. My goal is to provide compassionate, culturally aware therapy that promotes healing and growth.
What can clients expect to happen in their first session with you and moving forward?
Clients can expect an interactive first session focused on getting to know each other. Together, we establish boundaries and confidentiality, creating a safe space to share and reflect. We would explore current challenges, goals, preferred communication styles, cultural background, and lifestyle. Moving forward, therapy is collaborative and integrative, combining somatic and evidence-based practices, and relational work to help clients regulate emotions, achieve their personal goals, and experience healing and improved functioning.
What do you feel are your greatest strengths as a provider?
My greatest strengths are empathy, optimism, and cultural sensitivity. I deeply believe in my clients’ resilience and capacity for growth. I create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel seen, heard, and supported. My multilingual skills and multicultural awareness help me connect meaningfully with diverse clients. I am flexible and resourceful, tailoring therapy to each individual’s unique needs and experiences.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize, and why?
Rooted in trauma-focused and multicultural awareness, I treat trauma reactions with a strong somatic focus, such as polyvagal practices. Alongside somatic therapy, I draw on evidence-based practices such as CBT, psychodynamic, and humanistic approaches. This integrative approach allows me to tailor treatment to each person’s unique needs, goals, skills, and level of functioning. I employ psychotherapy and relational techniques to facilitate healing from attachment wounds and build healthier relationships. I utilize psychological assessments, personality assessments, and tools like the intersectionality wheel to better understand clients’ unique experiences.

Therapy works best when both client and therapist feel aligned. If a client does not feel we are a good fit or if our personalities do not match, I encourage clients to explore other options. In addition, if a client’s challenges fall outside my areas of expertise or they require critical care, it is my ethical obligation to refer or guide them to alternatives.

Each step is a success from my perspective. Successful treatment involves improved emotional regulation, positive feelings, and attaining goals that the client has set out for. Clients often experience stronger relationships, greater resilience, increased self-efficacy, and a sense of well-being. They are able to navigate daily life with confidence, maintain balance, and practice self-care.
-
I want clients to feel safe, seen, heard, and understood. They should feel comfortable sharing openly, exploring difficult emotions, and trusting the therapeutic process.

The work of therapy continues beyond our sessions, especially in healing from complex trauma. Clients are encouraged to practice skills, reflect, and apply insights in daily life as much as they can and feel comfortable doing so, as we progress in therapy.
