Meet Emily Lamoreaux, LGPC

Hi there! I am Emily Lamoreaux, LGPC! Thanks for stopping by!

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

Are you seeking a safe space to explore your sexuality, strengthen your relationships, get to know yourself deeper, heal from past traumas, and embrace your authentic self? Look no further. It can be difficult to make the first step to find a therapist! Just by reading this, and attempting to connect with a professional, you are one step closer to your goals.

I'm Emily Lamoreaux, a sex-positive therapist and yoga teacher (RYT 200) specializing in adults, relationships, and teens with a focus on mindfulness-based, trauma-informed care and holistic well-being. Therapy with me is meant to be grounded in a deep respect for individual experiences and multicultural awareness.

In my therapy room, I believe in the power of fostering a supportive environment free from taboos, stigmas, and judgment! With an integrative and holistic perspective, I utilize somatic movement, art therapy, mindfulness-based practices, and a sex-positive framework as well as evidence-based approaches such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and trauma-informed practices such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I am keen on recognizing the profound interplay between past experiences and present challenges in our relationship with ourselves and others. With a compassionate and non-judgmental approach, I provide a space for exploration, healing, and growth. I recognize that each person's experiences and identities are unique, and I am committed to providing culturally sensitive and inclusive therapy to the best of my ability. Most of my work comes from a feminist, humanistic outlook and has roots in relational cultural theory. I am always willing to learn and recognize that no one therapy modality is a one size fits all!

Who do I primarily work with?

I focus on ADHD and neurodivergence, trauma and post-traumatic growth, grief, non-traditional lifestyles, and kink-identity, LGBTQIA+ concerns (marginalization, internalized homophobia, stigma etc.), gender exploration, poly/LGBTQIA couples and polycules, codependency and attachment, current and previous sex workers / boundaries within sex work and society, and life transitions. I acknowledge that every human is different, and not every modality may work for them and their lived experience. I aim to work with my clients collaboratively to create a treatment plan that best serves their lives and their identities.

Common Relationship Counseling issues I work with:

  • Adult Attachment and Healthy, Secure Attachment Building.

  • Modern Relationships / abandoning traditional norms in relationships.

  • Premarital / Pre-commitment Couples

  • Alternative lifestyles, polycules, open relationships

  • LGBTQIA+ Couples

  • Sexual wellness

  • Affair Recovery, Infidelity, Trust + Betrayals

  • Adoption

  • Cohabitation, Roommates, etc.

  • Co-Parenting Struggles

  • Improving Communication Styles

Explaining some of the methods I use:

When working with Individuals

I primarily use DBT and ACT both come from a mindfulness-based third-wave perspective. I appreciate the natural incorporations of unconditional positive regard, authenticity, and self-respect. DBT feels comprehensive and allows for learning emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, and overall relationship building. ACT comes from an acceptance and mindfulness perspective. This modality addresses and works to have an open and flexible attitude toward challenges instead of trying to suppress or eliminate them. These modalities together emphasize autonomy while displaying compassion for complex human experiences. I have found that using these modalities with clients has helped them to dive deeper into their personal experiences, be more assertive, communicate their needs clearly, and set boundaries to protect their overall well-being!

I also use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapeutic approach that helps individuals process distressing memories and traumatic experiences. By incorporating guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR aims to reduce the emotional impact of past events, alleviate symptoms of PTSD, and promote psychological healing and well-being.

When working with couples

For relationship clients, relationship therapy, also known as couples therapy or traditionally, “marriage counseling”, is a type of psychotherapy aimed at helping couples, polycules, or other dynamics, recognize and resolve conflicts and improve their relationship. It involves a supportive and neutral environment for couples to discuss their issues. Many relationships find that working through their challenges in a safe and therapeutic environment helps them discover new possibilities moving forward.

A positive and enriching relationship is possible for any couple, but it requires commitment and work. For relationship counseling, I utilize a mindfulness-based, sex-positive, person-centered approach as well as being trained in various theoretical approaches to couples therapy, including the Gottman Method (Level 1 Clinician), and Prepare-Enrich.

Together, we will work towards building resilience, developing coping skills, and fostering meaningful connections within yourself and with others. Your healing journey starts here. Let's embark on it together. Your well-being is my priority, and I am here to support you on your path to wholeness and self-discovery.
